It's Almost Time For Farmer's Fat Bike Race!
Thanks to everyone who registered early and helped us sell out all entries to this weekend's Fat Bike Race at Versluis Orchards. Because we hit our rider limit early there will be no day of registration. With winter weather on it's way and the Salsa Cycles demo crew heading down from Minnesota, it's shaping up to be a perfect weekend for fat bike racing.
Weather forcast for Thursday through Saturday calls for below freezing temps (mid 20s on Saturday) and at least 6" of snow before race day. There is also a chance of snow all day on Saturday, so please come prepared to be outside all afternoon!! There is no shelter at the race course, which means duo riders will be hanging out in whatever weather Lake Michigan throws at us. Dress appropriately!
On Friday night (1/13) from 5pm to 8pm Ada Bike Shop will be offering 15% discounts on all Salsa Mukluks in stock, as well as discounts on all cycling merchandise. The Salsa Cycles demo crew will also be at the shop to show off Salsa snow bikes and answer any of your questions about fat biking and winter riding. If you miss them on Friday the Salsa Cycles crew will be at the race with demo bikes on Saturday!
All Racers must sign in either Friday Night at Ada Bike Shop from 5pm to 8pm, OR on Saturday at the farm from 10am to 11:30am. If you're racing the duo category BOTH of you must sign in together to be cleared to race.
Please carpool. Parking is limited in the area of the farm where we are holding the race. There is absolutely NO parking on the road. Any cars parked on the road will be towed.
No studded tires are allowed on the course. If you have homebrew studded fat bike tires on your rig or you registered to race skinny bike and have studs mounted, remove them before Saturday's race!
Use the following address to get you to the race: 3455 O'Brien Rd, Grand Rapids, MI 49534. Registration on raceday will be in the garage. The race course and event parking is across the street. The Farm is only a few miles west of downtown Michigan.
The course will not be open to preride until 11:00am on Saturday. Only registered riders will be allowed on the course. You must have a number plate mounted on your bike to ride on the race course. The course is a two mile loop comprised of flat to rolling two tracks and wooded trail with short steep hills. The ground is clay and is rock hard and icy under snow.
The race begins promptly at noon EST and ends at 3pm EST. Awards will be at 4pm in the garage, where we'll also be drawing names and giving away schwag from Salsa Cycles and Ada Bike Shop.
This is a grassroots race put on by volunteers. Our goal is to have fun and enjoy riding fat bikes in the snow. No whining. No complaining about the weather. No course cutting. Keep your behavior to a PG rating, as this is also a family event at a family farm. If you get out of line The Farmer will kick you out!
Good Luck to everyone making the trip to Grand Rapids. See you Saturday!
