Racing Into Cross Season

The latter part of Summer is often the quietest time of year for The Farm Team. With Versluis Orchards fully engaged in the annual fruit harvest, activities on the team shift away a bit from Cross Country racing. But as Labor Day receeds into the rear view mirror and the first Honey Crisp apples are picked from the trees, we always refocus on cyclocross!
In fact, the majority of the our rides throughout the year are done on cross bikes. West Michigan is crisscrossed with unpaved roads, and any team ride from the The Farm usually includes healthy doses of rural gravel. Last weekend was the first real cyclocross race of the year. Sunday was the kickoff of the Kisscross series near downtown Grand Rapids. Nate and Shawn competed in the elite race, placing 14th and 7th respectively. Scott competed in the Masters race, finishing 15th. The weather, sunny and 80 degrees made us think that it was still August. Look for us at the rest of the Kisscross races this Fall. And don't forget to stop by the fruit stand at Versluis Orchards for a homegrown taste of the season!
